And here's the sweet tabby stray who was my strongest and original inspiration. St. Clair adopted my husband and me during the Swannanoa Gathering (a folk music camp on the campus of Warren Wilson College.) She was named after the guest house where we stayed each summer during the Gathering.
Unfortunately, St. Clair’s health was compromised from the beginning. Her life was abbreviated by pain & complications from feline leukemia. But she was most definitely our angel, and she encouraged us to find the angels in all other critters around us.
(In addition to being featured in her own chapter, St. Clair also makes great cameo appearances throughout the Cat Angels book – see if you can tell which photomontages she’s in!)
